“uniqueness within an industrial process”
In collaboration with a sheet metal machining factory Job van den Berg developed Metal Skins. Metal Skins are created by forging a material surface and sheet metal together under high pressure. Besides an appealing texture the industrial pressing process adds strength, tactility, character and individuality. Efficiency meets personality. Industry meets nature.
The outside of the Metal Skin Cabinet shows the texture of wood grain, which he achieved by forging wood veneer and sheet metal under high pressure. This process creates a unique texture adding character and individuality to each object.
The Metal Skin Cabinet is Job van den Berg’s graduation project at the Design Academy Eindhoven in 2015. Two years later in 2017, Job presented the improved blue version of the Metal Skins Cabinet at Rossana Orlandi during Salone del Mobile (see the new cabinet in this link).
